In search of a lightweight, midsize tail bag for your KTM 690 Enduro? Kriega US-40 Rackpack might be worth a look.
This waterproof bag with adjustable volume has been one of my favorite picks for storing camping gear on longer trips (combined with Kriega OS-Base and OS-18 side bags), but also as a standalone bag for weekend rides. With its adjustable size, from 25 to 40 liters, the US-40 provides plenty of flexibility. It's easy to pack additional clothing layers or food for the night of camping.
Note that the bag is far from being fully loaded in these photos. Expanding roll top closures at both ends provides more space when needed. And it also makes it easier to reach the things you need.
US-40 has a relatively large footprint. To give it proper support, I recommend using Perun moto Extension plate over our Luggage rack. This combo provides plenty of surface area and will make the bag sit firmly in place.
Installation of the US-40 is straightforward. Two G-hook straps are looped trough slots at the rear of the Extension plate. Two more G-hook straps loop trough slots on Luggage rack. Attach G-hooks to loops on the bag, then buckle up. To complete the installation, tighten all the straps as needed.
Tip: if you don't plan to have the bag stuffed, it's better to use cam-buckle or similar type of straps which will wrap over the bag and help compress it.
As can be seen from the photos above, the US-40 is partially blocking the fuel cap. You have to unclip and move it backwards for refueling. This is true for all bags of this size on the 690 and has nothing to do with the US-40 itself.
Kriega US-40 Rackpack features attachment points which can be used to secure additional bags to the outside. Kriega 2l OS-Bottle holder is my favorite add-on. I use it for first aid kit and to store snacks.
Here's a quick walkaround video.
And a couple more photos from different angles.
