We have recently updated the design of our Side carriers for the Yamaha Tenere 700. The new version, Gen2, is lighter than the previous one and integrates seamlessly with Gen2 Top rack. More importantly, it fits on all model years and variants of the T700.
Why the update? There are rack-less luggage systems on the market that greatly benefit from additional support and stabilization provided by the side carriers. Giant Loop Great Basin is one of them.
Great Basin has been around for a good while. This large capacity bag features simple and robust one piece design, Two side bags and a top bag are integrated with the harness. Over time this bag proved to be a reliable travel companion, surviving many minor falls and packing whatever was needed. We're using the same bag for more than ten years. Even though Giant Loop has launched a new version a couple of months ago, I don't feel the need to switch over.

So, how does it fit on the Tenere 700? As you probably know, the stock T700 has no rear rack or grab handles, meaning it is challenging to fit any sort of luggage. That's where Perun Moto goodies come into play. Top luggage rack, Side carriers and Tie-down brackets, all purposely designed with rackless bags in mind.
Top rack provides perfectly positioned slots to securely attach the upper straps. Angles of these slots have been slightly revised on our Gen2 rack for better alignment with the straps.

Once you tighten the straps, the bag has nowhere to move.

Lower straps are secured to our Gen1 Tie-down brackets. Passenger footrest brackets would also work perfectly fine.
Why Gen1 brackets and not the new Gen2? The answer lies in the angle at which the side bags of the Great Basin sit. They are closer to being vertical than on any other rackless bags. Lower straps are also closer to being vertical. Our Gen2 Tie-down brackets provide strapping point that is simply too far forward to work optimally with this bag. Not that we didn't try.

Even like this, the straps are a bit longer than ideal. No matter how tight you pull them there will be some slack and side bags will bounce a little on rough terrain.

To help stabilize the bags, and prevent them from getting tangled with rear wheel, chain or swingarm, we're using our Gen2 Side Carriers. These simple stand-offs give enough support to mitigate any potential risk of bags contacting the wheel.

This rounds up the installation. We always prefer placing rackless bags as far forward as it makes sense, as long as they are not in the rider's way.

Photo above shows a 188cm (6'-2") rider sitting on the bike. There's not a lot of room to move around the seat, especially if wearing a backpack. Still, the bags are out of the way.
Even though the Great Basin is large, it still manages to be narrower than the handlebars.

Base of the bag folds over the front edges of our rack. This will rub through the rack's powder coating. Keep an eye for potential hot spots developing on the bags.

Side carriers are keeping the bags off the bike's side panels and away from the rear wheel.

Tenere 700 has a low-slung exhaust and the bags are nowhere near it. Heat shouldn't be a concern with this setup.

A simple, proven setup that gives the Great Basin the support and stability it needs on the Tenere 700.
