We love using Kriega luggage on our bikes. And their Adventure OS-Base, paired with OS-12 or OS-18 bags is certainly not an exception. This is a universal base and works well on a wide range of different bikes.
However, KTM 390 Adventure R has a slim rear end and fitment of the Adventure OS-Base on a stock bike is not as good as we would like to see. We just had to do something to do something about it.
So, we started with the Top luggage rack and Heel guards, both there to offer secure mounting points for the upper and lower straps. Top rack has a large, perfectly angled slot which easily accommodates the plastic buckle of the top strap.

Heel guards feature a quick release cutout, making strap installation a two second job. With it, there is no need to feed the entire strap length through the slot. Simply hook it in and tighten.

With the OS-Base fitted to the bike like this, the bags lacked side support. Since the 390 has no substantial side panels, the bags are left hanging in the air. Riding over bumpy terrain results in bouncing and there is a chance of the lower part of the bag getting tangled with the rear wheel, chain or swingarm.
And that's where our OS-Base Supports come into play.

These simple looking stand-offs start as 4mm stainless steel sheet metal. After some time in our Haas CNC mills, a trip through the brake press, and powder coating, we get the final product..

OS-Base supports are not a standalone product. Instead, they are bolted to the sides of our Top luggage rack. Installation is as straight forward as possible. Undo two bolts, place the part and tighten two bolts.

Once mounted, OS-Base supports follow the lines of the 390 rear end and integrate well with the overall look of the bike.

Since we are always "function over form" oriented, let's see how these brackets improve the fit of the Kriega Adventure OS-Base. Size, bending angles and overall shape of the product is designed in a way which provides the best support.

The lower rear portion of the bags rests entirely on the supports, completely eliminating the risk of the bags contacting the rear wheel. On its own, this also reduces the bouncing of the bags when riding over rougher terrain.
As can be seen in the photo above, the Kriega OS-12 bags mounted to the Adventure OS-Base remain narrower than the handlebars of the KTM 390 Adventure R.
To help further stabilize the entire setup, OS-base supports feature a slot which is perfectly positioned to secure one of the G-hook loops.

We're showing the OS-12 bags in these photos. Larger OS-18 bags actually have similar dimensions and will fit mostly the same. Everything written in this article is valid for OS-6, OS-12 and OS-18 bags as well.

Entire bags sit below the seat line which is great for lowering the center of gravity.

As the name suggests, our OS-Base supports are tailor made with specific luggage setup in mind. They may work with other bags as well, but we haven’t tested that so far. If you do run these with other luggage options please let us know how it works.
