In one of our OLDER ARTICLES we took a deep dive into the fitment of different Kriega bags and their Universal OS-Base onto the KTM 790/890 Adventure. In the meantime, Kriega has launched a dedicated, bike specific OS-Base for the 890, and we have made a slight redesign of the Billet rack - Small. Our buddy Andrija recently loaned us his bike and it was a perfect opportunity to do a test fit.
Since lower straps of the KTM 890 OS-Base have fixed length, their attachment point determines where the bags will sit. We secure them to the largest opening on our Tie-down brackets. Once both straps are threaded and G-hooks engaged, you can forget about them.

One difference becomes obvious right away when mounting the KTM 890 OS-Base. Its upper straps can pass directly through the slots in our Small Billet Rack. With the Universal OS-Base, we had to use OS-Rack Loops bolted to the underside of the rack. This makes the KTM 890 setup cleaner and simpler.

Pass the G-hook end of the strap through the slot from above, engage the G-hook and tighten both strap snuggly. This finalizes the mounting process and secures the OS-Base in place.

As can be seen from the photo above, the entire surface of our Small rack remain free. Smaller tail bags, like US-10 or US-20, can easily be secured to it. Other option is to attach the US Drypack bags directly onto the OS-Base. If you chose this option, keep in mind that the tail bag will be closer to you and there is a chance you'll be hitting it with your back when riding off road.
Since this is a dedicated OS-Base for the KTM 790/890 Adventure, it's not surprising that the fitment is perfect. Kriega team has done a great job, as usual.
Large part of the OS-Base rests on the bike's side panels resulting in stable fit.

For this test we are running two OS-12 bags. Using OS-18 bags instead makes little difference in terms of overall fitment. From my experience, it is easiest to attach the bags onto the OS-Base before you mount the entire system onto the bike.
Looking at the exhaust side, there is enough clearance between the bag and stock silencer. I would feel comfortable running this setup without a heat shield. Adding one just for the peace of mind is still a good idea thou.

To sum it up, if you already have an universal OS-Base it's still a great product and works well with this bike. However, if you're just looking at getting your first Kriega setup for the KTM 790/890 Adventure, look no further than their dedicated OS-Base. It mounts easier and the overall fitment is better.
